History to Company Directors

Solar Juice was established by two former colleagues who commenced their careers at Solarex, a company that manufactured solar panels in Australia during the 1980′s and 1990′s. Solarex was based in Villawood, western Sydney and produced poly crystalline solar panels ranging in size from 5W through to 120W. During the 1980′s and 1990′s Solarex primarily supplied the off grid sector in Australia which was the largest market with customers such as Telstra, Optus, Sydney Ports, Civil Aviation Authority and a number of miners such as BHP, Rio Tinto. During this period the off grid market was the bread and butter of the solar industry, on grid systems were rare and extremely expensive. In 1999 Solarex merged with BP Solar and the company consolidated its manufacturing and commercial operations by moving to Sydney Olympic Park.

BP Solar built a state of the art manufacturing plant which produced both Poly crystalline and Mono crystalline panels, the plant was in the centre of the Sydney 2000 Olympics and was at that stage the largest facility in the Southern Hemisphere. Both Andrew and Rami held very different roles, the former in commercial sales and latter in production, planning and procurement.

Andrew spent his early years working with and serving the needs of BP Solar’ distribution market in Australia. After this initiation he progressed to being responsible for the commercial management of numerous industrial clients in Australia such as Telstra, Silcar Telepower, Optus, Santos, BHP Billiton, O’Donnell Griffin, Air Services Australia and others. From here this opened up opportunities in the Asia Pacific region where he was responsible for the development of rural solar infrastructure projects. The highlight of this was the development and execution of the largest solar powered pumping project in the world with over 10,000 Solar powered irrigation kits supplied though the Sri Lankan Government to rural communities. The opportunity to move to Conergy became available and Andrew managed the NSW, ACT markets for Conergy during what would be the new dawn for grid connected Solar power in Australia.

Rami spent his early years working in the manufacturing arena for Solarex. He quickly moved into production planning for BP Solar and was responsible for the day to day output of the solar plant. He was the conduit between manufacturing and the commercial sales team. This grounding allowed Rami to move in strategic procurement where he held a key role developing relationships with suppliers for supply of raw materials such as poly silicon, wafers and cells. This opened up an opportunity to develop a very successful business in the raw materials sector supply solar wafers, solar cells and poly silicon.

Simon spent his early years working with Shell Solar where he was responsible for the Asian Market. His engineering / technical background was key to driving the highest sales in the solar business for consecutive years. Simon also spent considerable time in senior roles working with Siemens Solar, Solar World and other major manufacturers before establishing his own business interests. Simon is based in Singapore and actively involved in the strategic direction of Solar Juice.
